EYES HAVE EMOTIONS

The human eye is the most important sense organ in the human body. It can sense or detect light and transfer it into impulses or stimuli in neurons. It helps us learn more about our surroundings. We use our eyes in almost everything we do daily, such as reading, watching TV, driving, writing, and countless other activities, which I think is a gift from Al-Mighty.

Apart from these functions of an eye we receive or give energy through our eyes which are invisible to us but we can feel it through our minds or we say emotions. Do you know that visual information or messages from eyeballs go through the optic nerve and immediately divide into two pathways_one old pathway and a new pathway which is most developed in humans?
The old pathway goes from the eye straight down to a structure called the superior colliculus in the brain stem and from there, it goes to higher areas in the parietal lobes of the brain.
The new pathways travel from the eyes to a bunch of cells which is a relay station en route to the visual cortex in the brain. From here, visual information is transferred to thirty or so other visual areas in our brains for further processing. Old pathways act as early warning systems and it is concerned with specific circumstances or behavior. For example, if an object comes at you, the old pathway tells you where the object is, enabling your eyeballs and your head to turn towards that object. After that your brain decides how to respond to that object, should you grab it, dodge it, eat it, flee it, or make love to it?
Damage to the second pathway may lead to blindness. It is the most common sight brought on by stroke leakage or blood clots in one of the main blood vessels supplying the brain. If the blood vessel happens to be a cerebral artery in the back of the brain, damage can occur in either the left or right side of the visual cortex of the brain.

One pathway helps you to project and process WHERE an object is located, and the other pathway helps you to process WHAT objects are.

PSYCHOLOGICAL FACTORS IN VISUAL DISORDERS:
The eyes are called ‘the windows of the soul in which we see the or perceive feelings of others. Apart from doing the basic functions, one visual pathway carries the Qi or what we call vital energy in an outward direction or the flow of the visual energy stream that goes outside, that energy is used in emotions like love, hate, anger, withdrawal, grief, worry, or insanity. Some people try this visual Qi or energy to dominate others, some try to fight their fears, aggression, and bitterness, and some seem to use eye contact to drain the energy of other people. If you use your visual energy in negative ways like anger, bitterness, hatred or to dominate other means you are stretching your energy excessively may lead to in my opinion inflammation like conjunctivitis, or raised eye pressure as in glaucoma or may lead to atrophy of optic nerve if you stretch it beyond your limits. If you block your visual energy by worry or suppressed grief, you may develop cataract or dry eyes syndrome or excessive lachrymation.
Other visual pathway helps the Qi or vital energy flow inward direction and this energy flows into the eyes from the external environment. Some people develop myopia which is called short-sightedness, in my opinion, these short-sighted people are only interested in themselves. Another condition hypermetropia, which is called long-sightedness, these people are more interested in other people's lives than themselves. Some people don't want to see the truth of life by blurring their visual perception, they don't want to see unpleasant aspects of life, which they may find threatening or exhausting to deal with. This will lead to blurring of vision as in cataracts.
ROLE OF ACUPUNCTURE IN VISUAL DISORDERS:
According to Chinese medicine, the kidneys supply the jing or essence to the eyes, liver supplies blood to the eyes, and contacts the eyes via its internal pathway.
Some people whose dominant emotions are fear and anger are water and wood type which is related to kidney(water type) and liver(wood type).
The spleen is another organ that is related to the eyes partly due to worry, excessive study causing eye strain, or malnutrition. Lungs can play an important role if associated with blocked grief, and the heart in case of manic behavior or suppressed excitement. So on the whole, the excess is related to the liver, and deficiency to the kidney, liver, and spleen.
So whatever the problem of the eye, acupuncture will help you to reduce your excesses in case of emotional instability or make you strong in case of deficiency.

Red, dry, and hot eyes with pain, irritability, anger, and frustration may be a feeling of pressure in the eyes, photophobia or lachrymation with headache and tense muscles indicates you are having hyperactive liver Qi or heat in the liver.
Chronic dryness, soreness, and redness of the eyes may be irritability with tiredness, restlessness weak lower back, and night sweats, leading to the diagnosis of deficient kidney energy and liver yin energy.
Chronic or increasing blurring or diminishing of vision may be worse with tiredness, dizziness, or tinnitus to indicate deficient essence or jing Qi or deficient blood.
