ACUPUNCTURE IS AN ARMOR AND WEAPON TOO

 Acupuncture is an armor and weapon too.

This shiny metal which I am holding in my hand is an acupuncture needle. There is a common myth regarding acupuncture and patients coming to my clinic often ask me a question before starting acupuncture treatment the question goes like this "Doctor please let me know that after taking your treatment the medicines I am already taking are going to work or not"?now, how you are going to explain or give an answer to this question if you are practising in a city like new Delhi and still a lot of people don’t have awareness about acupuncture despite having a lot of acupuncturists.
Most of the patients coming to my clinic are of pain conditions like arthritis of the knee joint, sciatica with low back pain, cervical spondylitis, rheumatoid arthritis, tennis elbow etc. These patients before acupuncture treatment had tried all sorts of treatment like painkillers which had become a candy nowadays and you can get them easily at your nearby chemist even without a prescription, patients along with these painkillers or NSAIDs has also taken steroids but to no avail.
Patients asking these types of questions must know in the first place why their painkillers and steroids had stopped giving them pain relief even before acupuncture and still you are asking whether these medicines are going to work on their bodies or not. My answer to those patients is always "YES".
Acupuncture not only makes medicines work but also enhances the drug effects if you are taking them for a long period. When medicines like painkillers, antibiotics and even immunosuppressants become resistant, here acupuncture will activate your nociceptors by giving the right kind of stimulation through acupoint and this process of nociception will create impulses in nerve cells which start releasing chemical substances like enkephalins and endorphins which are natural pain killers which our cells produce when given right kind of push or stimulation through the needle. Acupuncture also acts like armour by protecting you from unwanted side effects of drugs but it also acts as a weapon by killing harmful cells like tumour necrosis cells and even cancer cells by making your immune system strong. Cancer patients can benefit from acupuncture if they are on chemotherapy.
Acupuncture can activate WBCs by activating your innate immunity which is the first one to get attacked by pathogens or infections. Adaptive immunity is also benefited from acupuncture treatment as in multiple sclerosis where no known cure has been found yet and the patient had to suffer by taking immunosuppressant drugs or interferons injections. Acupuncture stimulation gives the cell the right kind of kick which helps in producing chemical substances like cytokines which act as chemimessengersnger between two cells and also helping cell to cell signalling.

Activating your adaptive immunity,acupuncture furthermore activates humoral immune response by activating B cells and also your cell mediated immune response by activating T cells.
Neuro-transmitter like histamine which is an amine which is found in all body tissues can be activated by acupuncture which in addition activates H1 & H2 receptors which helps in capillary dilation and smooth muscle contraction and also mediate acceleration of heart rate and promotes gastric secretion.
